Michael Knighton on Sir Jim Ratcliffe & why Glazers WILL sell Man Utd

Back in 1989 Michael Knighton famously bought Manchester United and then ripped up the contract for a place on the board. His visionary blueprint transformed MUFC from a Football Club struggling financially into a commercial powerhouse.

Now he wants to lead the campaign to rescue the world’s most popular football club from their American owners.

Knighton is actively talking to potential investors with the aim of being the catalyst that brings together a consortium to buy control from the Glazers.

He’s urging Britain’s richest man Sir Jim Ratcliffe to switch his bid to buy a Premier League club from Chelsea to Manchester United. But he says he’s also talking to other billionaires. And he explains why and how he believes the Glazers will be persuaded to sell.

Filmmaker John Gubba has spent the last 2 years convincing Knighton that he should get involved and here he presents this exclusive interview.

  3. As a Man Utd supporter, I love your channel and love the content you provide. This is what we need, Michael really made very understanding and descriptive points. Sir Ratcliffe would be a brilliant custodian to the club and I do believe when you have people like Knighton involved, and even other investors like potentially ex-United legends, and seeing how the Class of 22 is a second coming of the Class of 92, this could arguably be written in the stars of United being brought back up on its youth and success and really restoring the bloodline and fundamentals of Manchester United.

The Glazers put more focus into their American ventures more than the English ones, they would rather focus on the Super Bowl rather than the Champions League. Tampa Bay Buccaneers they own, they won the Super bowl in 2020. We never see any of that passion they have at Tampa Bay into their other sporting ventures such as Man Utd. So I do think that if they wanna cut loose on United, give Sir Ratcliffe an offer, make it one that you feel would benefit. In the meantime, if I spoke to every single one of the supporters at the club, I say until the club is sold, don't buy anything associated with Man Utd that they can earn whether its programmes, food, drink, merchandise, anything.

  4. About time we finally have someone on our side that can usher in some much need change. With the massive amount of influence and strong connections that MK has, this interview feels like something really positive. Holding fingers that something can be done to get Man United back on track for the first time in years.

  5. Famous man bollocks up his take over kicked ball in front stretford end much hate glaziers this dude was no better but issue get scum bag glaziers out

  6. One day closer.
But some days inexplicably contain more time than others.
Something has happened recently that we can't yet put our finger on.
    But it's gonna continue happening.

  7. Talk is cheap. The glazers will never leave because they make too much money from the club. If so called fans had any balls they would protest with their wallets.

  8. Brilliant interview! I wish there were more businessmen like Michael who are unafraid to use their voice to criticise the current Glazer regime. Proper football man and a fan! Feels like there are still too many (businessmen in football or football fan businessmen) who are afraid to speak their mind. One of the Red Knights Jim O'Neill, who spoke on the Athletic football podcast last week, was equally critical of the Glazers, but there has to be more of them out there, and they need to speak up. I hope with the Chelsea ownership bidding, it has sparked a number of watching eyes who have the money, to start looking at tempting the Glazers to sell up. Whether its Jim Ratcliffe or someone else from a respected background, i.e. not China, Middle East, Russia, or US private-equity, I hope new ownership comes soon, because I can't another decade of no success overseen by owners who don't care.
